Hello everyone, and welcome to the finale, or rather, the denouement, of Akane Torikai’s Wandering Cat’s Cage. It’s been a little while since the previous chapter, so to catch up on all of the chapters to date, click below:

It’s worth noting that in the tankoubon (collected trade paperback edition) of Wandering Cat’s Cage, chapters 13 and 14 of the serialization were combined into one extra-length final chapter. We’ve decided to run them on separate weeks, to mimic the original serialization. They will be combined in the printed edition from Fantagraphics next year.
On that note, on behalf of MSX: Mangasplaining Extra, I’d like to thank Akane Torikai for believing in us and helping us to produce Wandering Cat’s Cage. We’re so grateful to have begun to bring it into English, and we’re excited to work with Fantagraphics to make the collected edition a magnificent graphic novel in 2025. Please follow her on Twitter!
I’d also like to thank Jocelyne Allen, who is a huge fan of Torikai’s work; it was Jocelyne writing about Akane Torikai on her blog Brain vs Book that really introduced me to Torikai’s stories… even though I’d already had the good fortune to meet her. Jocelyne helped bring this story to English not just as the title’s translator, but as a passionate advocate for Torikai-sensei’s work on many different fronts, and I’m really grateful to her for doing that work.
I think the awesome and multi-talented Sara Linsley did an incredible job lettering these volumes and bringing the English language edition to life, check out her website to get in contact. My colleague Deb Aoki edited the scripts with aplomb, and would be here with here own thank-yous right now if she weren’t in Seoul, learning all about Webtoons and Manhwa to bring that info back to all of us ‘splainers. Wandering Cat’s Cage is the first manga that she’s edited, so please go give her a big old “omedetou/congratulations” on her Twitter. We’d also like to thank to our ‘fixer’ in Japan Aki Yanagi, our friend Erik Ko at UDON Entertainment, Ryan Holmberg for introducing us to Torikai-sensei at a lovely dinner in 2018, and Fantagraphics for working with us to bring this project to the world.
Finally, thanks to Nick at Substack for believing in MSX, and to all of you who have subscribed who support our serializations here. It’d be pretty impossible to do a lot of this without you.
So we’ll be back in a month with a discussion on Wandering Cat’s Cage, feel free to comment here with your thoughts and questions to discuss. :)
Best,
Christopher Woodrow-Butcher
Due to the number of double-page spreads, this chapter looks best on the website or in the Substack app.
