Have you got a question for Susumu Higa about Okinawa?
Hi y’all. Next week Christopher and Andrew and translator Jocelyne Allen are headed to Okinawa to meet up with manga creator Susumu Higa. We’re hoping to interview Higa-sensei and include it in the printed version of his manga Okinawa coming next summer from Fantagraphics.
We thought we’d take the opportunity to see if there were any questions that you might have for Higa-sensei for the interview. Since we have the opportunity here with Substack to solicit feedback, we thought we’d see if you had a question you might want to ask. We’ll be publishing the interview here on Substack for paid subscribers in connection with the publication of the book next year too! Leave your question in the comments below and please mark OKAY TO PRINT. Thanks!
And if you’re wondering what this is all about, we published all 14 chapters of Okinawa here on Substack this year, and you can read them in the archives. Chapters 1 and 8 are free to read, and the rest are exclusively for paid subscribers. There’s a cool sign-up trial right now too, if you wanna read some manga and support Mangasplaining Extra! :D
Look for the show notes later this week, and another special CULTURE post this weekend as a treat for the holidays. Thanks for reading!

Congrats on Season 3!
I'm thrilled that Chip wants to read more Even Though We're Adults. It's gonna get even more complicated. I've just read V7 in Japanese and it's still quite good. Really, the best thing Shimura has done. So glad you'll be doing Rose of Versailles! Can't wait to hear what you all have to say about that. My recommendation is to keep Wikipedia open, it's all historical unless it's not.
Honestly, Chainsaw Man is...gripping. Sad and sweet and horrible and compelling. I started it on a lark and can't stop reading.
I'm kinda hoping you'll take a look at Akanebanashi, which is about rakugo, but is another creative-battle story.
With all these picks, and Under Ninja, I'm super looking forward to the next month of podcast. Happy New Year to you all.
